Translation

A hidden treasure does not come out by mere words but requires the reliable word (information), excavation, removal of surface stones etc., and by possessing it. Likewise, the pure nature of one’s Self, concealed by the effects of māyā, is not attained by specious logic but by a perfect instruction by realised person, logical reflection, meditation etc.

Annotation

āpta–ukti – The word of a trusted person; in this context, the scripture. The effects of māyā : Brahman is pure consciousness and māyā is the creative power which manifests in It. This manifests as the three guṇa–s and the five elements. A continuous evolution of these three guṇa–s and the five elements create the whole universe. The body–mind–complex is also an evolute of the above. The seeker, though his real nature is the same as that of Brahman, has wrongly has forgotten his identity and identified with the body–mind–complex. Hence, the truth is said to be concealed by the effects of māyā.
