Shloka

न गच्छति विना पानं व्याधिरौषधशब्दतः ।विनापरोक्षानुभवं ब्रह्मशब्दैर्न मुच्यते ॥ ६४ ॥

na gacchati vinā pānaṃ vyādhirauṣadhaśabdataḥ ;vināparokṣānubhavaṃ brahmaśabdairna mucyate . 64 .

व्याधिःvyādhiḥ
Sickness
न गच्छतिna gacchati
does not leave
औषध–शब्दतःauṣadha–śabdataḥ
by the mere mention of medicine
विना पानंvinā pānaṃ
without taking it
विना अपरोक्ष–अनुभवंvinā aparokṣa–anubhavaṃ
without direct realisation
ब्रह्म–शब्दैःbrahma–śabdaiḥ
by the mere words of Brahman
न मुच्यतेna mucyate
a person is not liberated

Translation

Unless a medicine is taken, sickness does not disappear by the mere mention of the word ‘medicine’. Without direct realisation, a person is not liberated by the mere words relating to Brahman (mentioned in Upanishads).
