Anvaya

अविज्ञाते परे तत्त्वेavijñāte pare tattve
When the Supreme Reality is unknown
शास्त्र–अधीतिः तुśāstra–adhītiḥ tu
the scriptural learning
निष्फलाniṣphalā
is of no use
विज्ञाते अपि परे तत्त्वेvijñāte api pare tattve
when the Supreme Reality is known

Translation

Mere scriptural learning is of little use if the Supreme Reality remains unknown. It is also of little use after the Supreme Reality is realised.

Annotation

The Supreme Reality refers to the principle of existence which is not negated at any time and which is of the nature of consciousness. It is the substratum for all the phenomenal things and it is beyond the framework of cause–effect enquiry. All learning is of no use if this reality is not realised (Jagadguru).
