Translation

Liberation is not attained by yoga, by sāṃkhya, by karma or by meditation on a personal god. It is attained by the realisation of oneness of the Self with Brahman and not otherwise.

Annotation

1) Liberation is not possible by yoga and sāṃkhya schools which are dualist doctrines. It is not achieved by the rituals enjoined on a person in the earlier portions of the Vedas. It is also not attained by meditations on a personal god (saguṇa–upāsanā). Upanishads clearly assert that any notion of duality leaves a person in fear. Fearlessness is possible only in the non–dual realisation. 2) Anything achieved by karma suffers from the limitations of being ephemeral and dying in nature. Liberation is not one such (Jagadguru). It should not however be understood that the above methods are of no use at all. All these are the preparatory steps for purification of mind.
