Translation

Liberation means the disentanglement of the tangle (knot) in the intellect. Hence the cessation of the body or discarding the yoga staff or discarding the water pitcher is not liberation.

Annotation

The reference to the knot in the intellect (hṛdaya–granthi) is ubiquitous in the Upanishads. It refers to nescience which is responsible for identification with the body–mind–complex.
