Shloka

अहिनिर्ल्वयनीवायं मुक्तदेहस्तु तिष्ठति ।इतस्ततश्चाल्यमानो यत्किञ्चित्प्राणवायुना ॥ ५५० ॥

ahinirlvayanīvāyaṃ muktadehastu tiṣṭhati ;itastataścālyamāno yatkiñcitprāṇavāyunā . 550 .

Anvaya

तद्–वत्tad–vat

शरीर–आभास–दर्शनात्śarīra–ābhāsa–darśanāt
because of the appearance of the body
मूढाःmūḍhāḥ
the deluded people
पश्यन्तिpaśyanti

देहि–वत्dehi–vat
him as having a body
ब्रह्म–वित्–तमम्brahma–vit–tamam
the best among the knowers of Brahman
विमुक्तंvimuktaṃ
who is freed from
देह–आदि–बन्धेभ्यःdeha–ādi–bandhebhyaḥ
bondages such as the body

Translation

But this realised person, devoid of identification with the body, stays like the slough cast off by the snake, being moved a little bit in different directions by the wind.

Annotation

This is a re–statement of the line from the Br.Up. (4–4–7), which states that the body of a realised person is like the slough, which has been discarded by the snake.
