Shloka

तद्वद्देहादिबन्धेभ्यो विमुक्तं ब्रह्मवित्तमम् ।पश्यन्ति देहिवन्मूढाः शरीराभासदर्शनात् ॥ ५४९ ॥

tadvaddehādibandhebhyo vimuktaṃ brahmavittamam ;paśyanti dehivanmūḍhāḥ śarīrābhāsadarśanāt . 549 .

Anvaya

रविःraviḥ
The Sun
अग्रस्तः अपिagrastaḥ api
though not swallowed
तमसा ग्रस्तवत् भानात्tamasā grastavat bhānāt
because of appearing as though swallowed by darkness
जनैःjanaiḥ
by people
ग्रस्तः इति उच्यतेgrastaḥ iti ucyate
said to have been swallowed
भ्रान्त्या हिbhrāntyā hi
indeed by delusion
अज्ञात्वाajñātvā
not knowing
वस्तु–लक्षणम्vastu–lakṣaṇam
the real nature of the object

Translation

Similarly, because of the appearance the body, the deluded people see him as an embodied person, though this eminent knower of Brahman is freed from all bondages such as with the body.

Annotation

The word ‘ābhasa’, which is used here and in some other places by Sri Shankara was developed as ‘ābhasa–vāda’ by the later advaitins.
