अभिमानिनःabhimāninaḥ
for the one identifying with them
मुनेःmuneḥ
For the sage
सद्–आत्मनःsad–ātmanaḥ
abiding as pure existence
विद्वस्त–बन्धस्यvidvasta–bandhasya
for the one who has cut off the bondages
कुतःkutaḥ
where
शुभं फलं वाśubhaṃ phalaṃ vā
the fruit of either good
अपि अशुभं वाapi aśubhaṃ vā
or bad?
Translation
The Sun, appearing as though swallowed by darkness, is alleged by deluded people to have been swallowed, not knowing the real nature of the Sun.
Annotation
Incidentally, we may note that the reality of solar eclipse (though the puranic version was that the Sun was swallowed by Rahu) was known by the time of Sri Shankara.
