Shloka
श्रीगुरुरुवाच -
धन्योऽसि कृतकृत्योऽसि पावितं ते कुलं त्वया ।
यदविद्याबन्धमुक्त्या ब्रह्मीभवितुमिच्छसि ॥ ५२ ॥
śrīgururuvāca -
dhanyo’si kṛtakṛtyo’si pāvitaṃ te kulaṃ tvayā ;
yadavidyābandhamuktyā brahmībhavitumicchasi . 52 .
Anvaya
- धन्यः असिdhanyaḥ asi
- You are blessed
- कृत–कृत्यः असिkṛta–kṛtyaḥ asi
- your objective is attained
- ते कुलंte kulaṃ
- your (whole) clan
- पावितं त्वयाpāvitaṃ tvayā
- is purified by you

- अविद्या–बन्ध–मुक्त्याavidyā–bandha–muktyā
- by getting freed from the bondage of ignorance

- you desire to become Brahman
Translation
The teacher said: by your desire to become Brahman by getting freed from the bondage of ignorance you are blessed, your goal is achieved and your clan has been purified by you.
Annotation
1) śrīguruḥ – It means that the guru associated with śrīḥ. The knowledge of the three Vedas is the nectar for the seekers and that is the śrīḥ for them. The word indicates that the teacher is one who is endowed with that. 2) kṛtakṛtya – It refers to the person who has been doing karma–s prescribed by scriptures. It also means a person who has achieved his goal. Here, on seeing the earnestness of the student, the teacher is assuring that the student would achieve his goal of realisation. 3) pāvitaṃ – scriptures say that the whole clan of the realised person gets purified by virtue of his knowledge of Self. 4) brahmī–bhavitum – Grammatically, (by the use of affix cviḥ) the expression means that someone who is not a Brahman, desires to become Brahman. It would imply that Brahman–hood is not in his nature but newly acquired. Hence the expression is used in a figurative sense. Brahman–hood is always there but it was not realised. Realisation is expressed as becoming Brahman (Jagadguru).
