Shloka

श्रद्धाभक्तिध्यानयोगान्मुमुक्षो -
र्मुक्तेर्हेतून्वक्ति साक्षाच्छ्रुतेर्गीः ।
यो वा एतेष्वेव तिष्ठत्यमुष्य
मोक्षोऽविद्याकल्पिताद्देहबन्धात् ॥ ४८ ॥

śraddhābhaktidhyānayogānmumukṣo -
rmukterhetūnvakti sākṣācchrutergīḥ ;
yo vā eteṣveva tiṣṭhatyamuṣya
mokṣo’vidyākalpitāddehabandhāt . 48 .

श्रद्धा–भक्ति–ध्यान–योगात्śraddhā–bhakti–dhyāna–yogāt
By the path of earnest trust, devotion and meditation
मुमुक्षोःmumukṣoḥ
for the seeker
मुमुक्तेः हेतून्mumukteḥ hetūn
the means of liberation
वक्तिvakti
tells
साक्षात् श्रुतेः गीःsākṣāt śruteḥ gīḥ
the very words of the scripture
यः वाyaḥ vā
the person who
एतेषु एव तिष्ठतिeteṣu eva tiṣṭhati
stays firm in these alone
अमुष्यamuṣya

मोक्षःmokṣaḥ
liberation
अविद्या–कल्पितात् देह–बन्धात्avidyā–kalpitāt deha–bandhāt
from the bondage of body (and mind) caused by ignorance

Translation

The scripture itself suggests the path of earnest trust, devotion and meditation to the seeker as the means of liberation. A person who stays firm in these alone would attain freedom from the bondage of body (and mind), caused by ignorance.

Annotation

1) ‘śraddhā’ – is an earnest trust in the teaching of scripture and of the teacher. 2) ‘Devotion’ – is the application of or contemplation on the teaching related to one’s Self. This is called nididhyāsanam (continuous internalisation). 3) ‘Dhyānam’ is a continuous stream of the same thought. 4) ‘Yoga’ is understood in the etymological sense – ‘by this a person is united with’. Thus ‘yoga’ is the means to realise the the Self (Jagadguru).
