The person, abiding as the infinite Brahman, in whom the issues presented by others merge and lose their identity – like the flows of rivers merge in the ocean having entered it and do not cause any disturbance in it – such sage is the one who is free.
Annotation
The realised person does not pursue sense objects on his own volition. He accepts things as they come or as caused by others. All praises and insults get absorbed in him, without creating any reaction such as joy or sorrow, like the rivers flowing into the ocean. A person wielding a sword in the infinite space does not cause any hurt to the space. Similarly the realised person, staying as infinite Brahman, is not ruffled by any happening. The word ‘vimuktaḥ’ implies that all his predispositions have disappeared (Jagadguru).
