Shloka

इष्टानिष्टार्थसम्प्राप्तौ समदर्शितयात्मनि ।उभयत्राविकारित्वं जीवन्मुक्तस्य लक्षणम् ॥ ४३५ ॥

iṣṭāniṣṭārthasamprāptau samadarśitayātmani ;ubhayatrāvikāritvaṃ jīvanmuktasya lakṣaṇam . 435 .

Anvaya

इष्ट–अनिष्ट–अर्थ–संप्राप्तौiṣṭa–aniṣṭa–artha–saṃprāptau
When things good or bad befall
सम–दर्शितयाsama–darśitayā
due to an equanimous mind
अविकारित्वंavikāritvaṃ
the quality of being not getting affected
आत्मनिātmani
in one’s self
उभयत्रubhayatra
towards both
लक्षणम्lakṣaṇam
(is the) characteristic of
जीवन्–मुक्तस्यjīvan–muktasya
of the person who is liberated while being alive

Translation

Having a mind of equanimity and not getting affected in one’s self when things good or bad befall, is the characteristic of the person who is liberated while being alive.

Annotation

As the person as neither love or hatred towards anything he has no joy or sadness when good or bad befalls (Jagadguru).
