Translation

Having an attitude of equanimity towards the world of diversity which consists of merit and demerit is the characteristic of the person who is liberated while being alive.

Annotation

1) Not desiring anything considering it a merit and not discarding anything by considering it as demerit is equanimity. The realised person is disinterested in both because he knows that all this is due to nescience. 2) The word ‘sama’ refers to Brahman as seen in Shankaracharya’s commentary on the verse in the Gita 5–19 (Jagadguru).
