Shloka

समाहितान्तःकरणः स्वरूपे
विलोकयात्मानमखण्डवैभवम् ।
विच्छिन्द्धि बन्धं भवगन्धगन्धिलं
यत्नेन पुंस्त्वं सफलीकुरुष्व ॥ ४१२ ॥

samāhitāntaḥkaraṇaḥ svarūpe
vilokayātmānamakhaṇḍavaibhavam ;
vicchinddhi bandhaṃ bhavagandhagandhilaṃ
yatnena puṃstvaṃ saphalīkuruṣva . 412 .

समाहित–अन्तःकरणः (सन्)samāhita–antaḥkaraṇaḥ (san)
By establishing your mind in Brahman
स्व–रूपेsva–rūpe
in your real Self (Brahman)
विलोकय–आत्मानम्vilokaya–ātmānam
see yourself as
अखण्ड–वैभवम्akhaṇḍa–vaibhavam

Translation

By establishing your mind firmly in Brahman, realise yourself as the all–pervading Self. With all effort, break off the bondages reeking with the smell of birth and death. Achieve fulfillment of the goal of human life.

Annotation

1) ‘The bondage’ refers to nescience. 2) Several scriptural statements assert that there is no better achievement than realisation of the Self. Hence it is the highest goal (Jagadguru). Transmigrating in the cycle of life and death the jīva is said to take up several lives – human, animal, bird and so on. In all the lives other than the human life there is no opportunity to purify oneself through karma–yoga and contemplate on Brahman. Hence human life is the only opportunity for the jīva to attain freedom from bondage.
