Shloka

न ह्यस्ति विश्वं परतत्त्वबोधा -
त्सदात्मनि ब्रह्मणि निर्विकल्पे ।
कालत्रये नाप्यहिरीक्षितो गुणे
न ह्यम्बुबिन्दुर्मृगतृष्णिकायाम् ॥ ४०५ ॥

na hyasti viśvaṃ paratattvabodhā -
tsadātmani brahmaṇi nirvikalpe ;
kālatraye nāpyahirīkṣito guṇe
na hyambubindurmṛgatṛṣṇikāyām . 405 .

Anvaya

पर–तत्त्व–बोधात्para–tattva–bodhāt
After realisation of the Supreme
ब्रह्मणिbrahmaṇi
in Brahman
विश्वंviśvaṃ
the universe
न हि अस्तिna hi asti

सद्–आत्मनिsad–ātmani
in the eternal Atman

मृगतृष्णिकायाम्mṛgatṛṣṇikāyām
in a mirage

Translation

The world ceases to exist for the person who realises the Supreme Reality, Brahman, which is the eternal Self, devoid of division. In all three times (past, present and future) snake does not exist in the rope and not a drop of water exists in a mirage.

Annotation

The overall meaning is as follows: Just as, the snake does not exist in the rope in all three times, the world too, does not exist in Brahman in absolute terms. The existence of world is a tentative reality for the ignorant person.
