Shloka

शवाकारं यावद्भजति मनुजस्तावदशुचिः
परेभ्यः स्यात्क्लेशो जननमरणव्याधिनिरयाः ।
यदात्मानं शुद्धं कलयति शिवाकारमचलं
तदा तेभ्यो मुक्तो भवति हि तदाह श्रुतिरपि ॥ ३९७ ॥

śavākāraṃ yāvadbhajati manujastāvadaśuciḥ
parebhyaḥ syātkleśo jananamaraṇavyādhinirayāḥ ;
yadātmānaṃ śuddhaṃ kalayati śivākāramacalaṃ
tadā tebhyo mukto bhavati hi tadāha śrutirapi . 397 .

यावद्yāvad
As long as
मनुजःmanujaḥ
a person
शव–आकारं भजतिśava–ākāraṃ bhajati
identifies with the corpse–like body
तावद्tāvad

अशुचिःaśuciḥ

क्लेशः स्यात्kleśaḥ syāt

Translation

As long as a person identifies with corpse–like body, till then he remains impure, gets afflicted by others and by birth, death, illness and hell. When he realises his self as pure, blissful in nature and unchanging, he gets freed from them (all afflictions). Scripture too, tells that fact.

Annotation

‘From others’ – perception of duality is the cause for fear and anxiety. As long as a person identifies with the body, he keeps having pleasure and pain. One who sees Brahman in everything is freed from such fear (Jagadguru).
