Shloka

आशां छिन्धि विषोपमेषु विषयेष्वेषैव मृत्योः सृति -
स्त्यक्त्वा जातिकुलाश्रमेष्वभिमतिं मुञ्चातिदूरात्क्रियाः ।
देहादावसति त्यजात्मधिषणां प्रज्ञां कुरुष्वात्मनि
त्वं द्रष्टास्यमलोऽसि निर्द्वयपरं ब्रह्मासि यद्वस्तुतः ॥ ३७८ ॥

āśāṃ chindhi viṣopameṣu viṣayeṣveṣaiva mṛtyoḥ sṛti -
styaktvā jātikulāśrameṣvabhimatiṃ muñcātidūrātkriyāḥ ;
dehādāvasati tyajātmadhiṣaṇāṃ prajñāṃ kuruṣvātmani
tvaṃ draṣṭāsyamalo’si nirdvayaparaṃ brahmāsi yadvastutaḥ . 378 .

आशां छिन्धिāśāṃ chindhi

Contemplate on
आत्मनिātmani
the Self
यद् वस्तुतःyad vastutaḥ

द्रष्टा असिdraṣṭā asi
are the knower
अमलः असिamalaḥ asi
you are pure
निर्द्वय–परं ब्रह्म असिnirdvaya–paraṃ brahma asi
you are the non–dual Supreme Brahman

Translation

Sever your longing for the sense objects, which is comparable to poison. This alone is the path for death. Having given up the sense of identification for the class, clan and stage of life, keep karma far away. Give up the notion of self in the body etc., which are unreal. Contemplate on the Self, as you are indeed the knower, the pure, non–dual and Supreme Brahman.

Annotation

‘Death’ – is slipping away from the knowledge of the Self. You are the knower whereas the body and all else are the ‘known’ (Jagadguru).
