Shloka

स्वामिन्नमस्ते नतलोकबन्धो
कारुण्यसिन्धो पतितं भवाब्धौ ।
मामुद्धरात्मीयकटाक्षदृष्ट्या
ऋज्व्यातिकारुण्यसुधाभिवृष्ट्या ॥ ३७ ॥

svāminnamaste natalokabandho
kāruṇyasindho patitaṃ bhavābdhau ;
māmuddharātmīyakaṭākṣadṛṣṭyā
ṛjvyātikāruṇyasudhābhivṛṣṭyā . 37 .

Anvaya

स्वामिन्svāmin

salutation to you
नत–लोक–बन्धोnata–loka–bandho
oh! kin to students beseeching (you)
कारुण्य–सिन्धोkāruṇya–sindho
oh! ocean of compassion
माम्mām
me
भव–अब्धौ पतितंbhava–abdhau patitaṃ
who am fallen in the ocean of transmigration
उद्धरuddhara
uplift me
आत्मीय–कटाक्ष–दृष्ट्याātmīya–kaṭākṣa–dṛṣṭyā
by your kind, graceful looks
ऋज्व्याṛjvyā
candid
अति–कारुण्य–सुधा–अभिवृष्ट्याati–kāruṇya–sudhā–abhivṛṣṭyā
by showering the nectar of compassion

Translation

Revered sir, friend of seekers beseeching you and the ocean of compassion, salutations to you. Uplift me, who am drowned in the ocean of transmigration by your compassionate and candid looks and by showering the nectar of compassion on me.

Annotation

Human life is called the ocean of transmigration as it consists of great perils such as birth, old age, disease, death etc. Realising one’s real nature as not different from Brahman frees a person from the notion of birth and death (Jagadguru).
