Shloka

सति सक्तो नरो याति सद्भावं ह्येकनिष्ठया ।कीटको भ्रमरं ध्यायन्भ्रमरत्वाय कल्पते ॥ ३५९ ॥

sati sakto naro yāti sadbhāvaṃ hyekaniṣṭhayā ;kīṭako bhramaraṃ dhyāyanbhramaratvāya kalpate . 359 .

Anvaya

नरःnaraḥ
The person who
सति सक्तःsati saktaḥ
whose mind is fixed on Reality
याति हिyāti hi
surely attains
सद्–भावंsad–bhāvaṃ
the state of Reality
एक–निष्ठयाeka–niṣṭhayā
with one pointed abidance
कीटकःkīṭakaḥ
the insect
भ्रमरं ध्यायन्bhramaraṃ dhyāyan
contemplating on the bee
कल्पतेkalpate
becomes fit
भ्रमरत्वायbhramaratvāya
to become the bee (itself)

Translation

The person with his mind fixed on Reality surely attains the state of Reality. The insect which contemplates on the bee with one pointed attention becomes fit to become the bee itself.

Annotation

It is seen in nature that a caterpillar turns into a bee. In the present context the jīva, being Brahman, has forgotten his nature due to superimposition caused by nescience. He realises his nature as Brahman by contemplating on Brahman (Jagadguru). The analogy of insect and bee (bhramara–kīṭa–nyāya) is commonly used in Vedantic literature in order to emphasise the importance of contemplation. The intensity of contemplation results in achieving the desired result.
