Shloka

यदा कदा वापि विपश्चिदेष
ब्रह्मण्यनन्तेऽप्यणुमात्रभेदम् ।
पश्यत्यथामुष्य भयं तदेव
यदीक्षितं भिन्नतया प्रमादात् ॥ ३३१ ॥

yadā kadā vāpi vipaścideṣa
brahmaṇyanante’pyaṇumātrabhedam ;
paśyatyathāmuṣya bhayaṃ tadeva
yadīkṣitaṃ bhinnatayā pramādāt . 331 .

Anvaya

यदा कदा वा अपिyadā kadā vā api
In case, at any time
एषः विपश्चित्eṣaḥ vipaścit
this realised person
पश्यतिpaśyati
sees
अणु–मात्र–भेदं अपिaṇu–mātra–bhedaṃ api
even a little bit of duality
ब्रह्मणि अनन्तेbrahmaṇi anante
in the infinite Brahman
अथatha
then
अमुष्यamuṣya
for such person
यद् ईक्षितंyad īkṣitaṃ
that (duality) which is seen
प्रमादात्pramādāt
by inadvertence
भिन्नतयाbhinnatayā
as distinct
भयं तद्–एवbhayaṃ tad–eva
that itself is fear

Translation

In case, at any time the realised person sees even a little bit of duality in the infinite Brahman, then the inadvertent perception of duality is itself the cause of fear for such person.

Annotation

Infinite Brahman – is that which is devoid of the three–fold limitation of space, time and object (deśa–kāla–vastu). The source of fear is perception of duality (Jagadguru).
