Translation

Slipping away from the awareness of the self results from such pursuit and such person surely falls down. Except ruin, there is no ascendance seen again for a fallen person. Hence one has to give up contemplation on objects as such contemplation is the cause of all undesirable results. Sense objects are harmful and hence they have to be avoided just as a sick person avoids the restricted food.

Annotation

‘Slipping away’ – means forgetting one’s real nature and getting identified with the five sheaths which are non–self. ‘Ruin’ – means loss of Self–knowledge identification with the body–mind–complex is death. ‘Ascendance’ – means realising Brahman again (Jagadguru).
