Shloka

न प्रमादादनर्थोऽन्यो ज्ञानिनः स्वस्वरूपतः ।ततो मोहस्ततोऽहन्धीस्ततो बन्धस्ततो व्यथा ॥ ३२३ ॥

na pramādādanartho’nyo jñāninaḥ svasvarūpataḥ ;tato mohastato’handhīstato bandhastato vyathā . 323 .

प्रमादात्pramādāt
Apart from inadvertence

Translation

Apart from fall from the knowledge of the self (as Brahman) there is no other unwelcome thing for a realised person. Such fall leads to wrong perception, which in turn leads to the notion of ego, bondage and sorrow.

Annotation

The word tataḥ means fall from awareness of the self as Brahman. Ego leads to identification with the body–mind–complex, which leads to transmigration (Jagadguru). Abiding in the knowledge of one’s self as Brahman is what characterises a realised person. Any lapse from that such awareness is inadvertence, which is most unwelcome from him, as it breeds wrong thinking, leading to notion of ego, bondage and sorrow.
