Translation

Devotion (bhakti) is supreme among all the means for liberation. Contemplation on one’s real nature is termed devotion.

Annotation

The expression svarūpa–anusandhānam refers to an enquiry into the nature of the Self and a constant meditation on the idea that one’s Self is Brahman. It involves a proper understanding of the scripture, logical validation to resolve doubts and a continuous application of the same to oneself (Jagadguru). Devotion is not a mere belief but an examination of one’s real nature.
