Shloka

स्वात्मतत्त्वानुसन्धानं भक्तिरित्यपरे जगुः ।उक्तसाधनसम्पन्नस्तत्त्वजिज्ञासुरात्मनः ॥ ३३ ॥

svātmatattvānusandhānaṃ bhaktirityapare jaguḥ ;uktasādhanasampannastattvajijñāsurātmanaḥ . 33 .

अपरे जगुःapare jaguḥ

स्व–आत्म–तत्त्व–अनुसन्धानंsva–ātma–tattva–anusandhānaṃ
contemplation that the Self is not different from Brahman
भक्तिः इतिbhaktiḥ iti

Translation

Others say that devotion is contemplation on the nature of Atman and application to oneself. Equipped with the above means (mentioned in verse 19), the seeker in the quest of atman has to approach a realised guru, by whom he would attain freedom from bondage.

Annotation

The earlier verse talked of one’s own nature. The present verse introduces the word ‘Atman’ and thus implies to the equation of the seeker with Brahman (Jagadguru). Devotion which initially starts with an idea of duality matures into non–dual devotion in which the devotee realises oneness with the Supreme.
