घटाकाशं महाकाश इवात्मानं परात्मनि ।विलाप्याखण्डभावेन तूष्णीं भव सदा मुने ॥ २८९ ॥

ghaṭākāśaṃ mahākāśa ivātmānaṃ parātmani ;vilāpyākhaṇḍabhāvena tūṣṇīṃ bhava sadā mune . 289 .

Anvaya

विलाप्यvilāpya
Having resolved
आत्मानंātmānaṃ
the limited self
पर–आत्मनिpara–ātmani
in the Supreme Self
घट–आकाशं इवghaṭa–ākāśaṃ iva
just as the pot space
महा–आकाशेmahā–ākāśe
in the infinite space
अखण्ड–भावेनakhaṇḍa–bhāvena
with the notion of being the infinite
तूष्णीं भवtūṣṇīṃ bhava
be quiet (actionless)
सदाsadā
always
मुनेmune
oh contemplating one!

Translation

Oh contemplating one! Having resolved the limited self in the Supreme Self, just as the pot space is resolved in the infinite space, may you stay actionless always with the notion of being the infinite.

Annotation

1) The body–mind–complex is only a limiting adjunct for Atman and hence it has to be resolved in the Supreme Self. 2) akhaṇḍa – literally means ‘without parts’. This is possible only in the infinite (Jagadguru).
