nāhaṃ jīvaḥ paraṃ brahmetyatadvyāvṛttipūrvakam ;vāsanāvegataḥ prāptasvādhyāsāpanayaṃ kuru . 281 .
Anvaya
न अहं जीवःna ahaṃ jīvaḥ
I am not jīva
परं–ब्रह्मparaṃ–brahma
(but the) Supreme Brahman
इतिiti
thus
अतद्–व्यावृत्ति–पूर्वकम्atad–vyāvṛtti–pūrvakam
by negating the unreal
प्राप्तprāpta
that which is got
वासना–वेगतःvāsanā–vegataḥ
by the intensity of latent tendencies
कुरुkuru
do
स्व–अध्यासा–अपनयंsva–adhyāsā–apanayaṃ
negation of the superimposition in your mind
Translation
By constant contemplation “I am not Jīva but the Supreme Brahman”, negate the unreal which has been acquired by the intensity of latent tendencies. Thus negate the superimposition on your mind.
Annotation
‘Unreal’ – means everything apart from Brahman. ‘Negating the unreal’ means negating the five sheaths and realising that a person is the eternal witness which is the innermost Self (Jagadguru).
