Shloka

अनात्मवासनाजालैस्तिरोभूतात्मवासना ।नित्यात्मनिष्ठया तेषां नाशे भाति स्वयं स्फुटा ॥ २७६ ॥

anātmavāsanājālaistirobhūtātmavāsanā ;nityātmaniṣṭhayā teṣāṃ nāśe bhāti svayaṃ sphuṭā . 276 .

Anvaya

आत्म–वासनाātma–vāsanā
The fragrance (knowledge) of Atman
तिरोभूताtirobhūtā
stands suppressed
अनात्म–वासना–जालैःanātma–vāsanā–jālaiḥ
by a multitude of bad odours (tendencies) of non–self
तेषां नाशेteṣāṃ nāśe
while they disappear
नित्य–आत्म–निष्ठयाnitya–ātma–niṣṭhayā
by abiding in the eternal Atman
स्फुटाsphuṭā
very clearly
भातिbhāti
shines
स्वयंsvayaṃ
by itself

Translation

The fragrance (knowledge) of Atman stands suppressed by a multitude of bad odours (tendencies) of non–self. When, by abiding in the eternal Atman, the tendencies disappear, Atman clearly appears by itself.

Annotation

The multitude of bad tendencies – refer to the three vāsanā–s referred to above. The asura sampat (the demonic qualities) mentioned in the Gita can also be included here (Jagadguru).
