Shloka

जलादिसम्पर्कवशात्प्रभूत -
दुर्गन्धधूतागरुदिव्यवासना ।
सङ्घर्षणेनैव विभाति सम्य -
ग्विधूयमाने सति बाह्यगन्धे ॥ २७४ ॥

jalādisamparkavaśātprabhūta -
durgandhadhūtāgarudivyavāsanā ;
saṅgharṣaṇenaiva vibhāti samya -
gvidhūyamāne sati bāhyagandhe . 274 .

Anvaya

जलादि–संसर्ग–वशात्jalādi–saṃsarga–vaśāt
Because of contact with water etc
प्रभूत–दुर्गन्ध–धूताprabhūta–durgandha–dhūtā
covered by a strong foul odour
अगरु–दिव्य–वासनाagaru–divya–vāsanā
the fragrance of sandal wood
संघर्षणेन एवsaṃgharṣaṇena eva
only by rubbing off
बाह्य–गन्धेbāhya–gandhe
the external (superimposed) smell
विधूयमाने सतिvidhūyamāne sati
when it is removed
विभाति सम्यक्vibhāti samyak
shines gloriously

Translation

The fragrance of sandal wood, covered by a strong foul odour because of contact with water etc., shines gloriously only when the external (superimposed) smell is rubbed off and removed.
