Shloka
ज्ञाते वस्तुन्यपि बलवती वासनानादिरेषा
कर्ता भोक्ताप्यहमिति दृढा यास्य संसारहेतुः ।
प्रत्यग्दृष्ट्यात्मनि निवसता सापनेया प्रयत्ना -
न्मुक्तिं प्राहुस्तदिह मुनयो वासनातानवं यत् ॥ २६८ ॥
jñāte vastunyapi balavatī vāsanānādireṣā
kartā bhoktāpyahamiti dṛḍhā yāsya saṃsārahetuḥ ;
pratyagdṛṣṭyātmani nivasatā sāpaneyā prayatnā -
nmuktiṃ prāhustadiha munayo vāsanātānavaṃ yat . 268 .
Anvaya
- वस्तुनि ज्ञाते अपिvastuni jñāte api
- Although Brahman is known
- एषा वासनाeṣā vāsanā
- this latent tendency

- अहम् कर्ताaham kartā

Translation
Although Brahman is known (from the above said reasoning) this latent tendency that “I am the doer and enjoyer”, is existing long since and it is very firm. It is the cause for transmigration of this person. That (tendency) has to be got rid of with effort by turning inwards. This obliteration of tendencies is called liberation by the sages.
Annotation
1) ‘turning inwards’ – means avoiding pursuit of external objects and contemplating on the Self as advised in the scriptures. 2) Obliteration of tendencies – is a favourable state for realisation of Brahman and hence it is called realisation (Jagadguru).
