Shloka

अस्थूलमित्येतदसन्निरस्य
सिद्धं स्वतो व्योमवदप्रतर्क्यम् ।
अतो मृषामात्रमिदं प्रतीतं
जहीहि यत्स्वात्मतया गृहीतम् ।
ब्रह्माहमित्येव विशुद्धबुद्ध्या
विद्धि स्वमात्मानमखण्डबोधम् ॥ २५२ ॥

asthūlamityetadasannirasya
siddhaṃ svato vyomavadapratarkyam ;
ato mṛṣāmātramidaṃ pratītaṃ
jahīhi yatsvātmatayā gṛhītam ;
brahmāhamityeva viśuddhabuddhyā
viddhi svamātmānamakhaṇḍabodham . 252 .

Anvaya

अस्थूलम्asthūlam
‘Not gross’
इति एतद्iti etad
(scriptural sentences) such as this
असत् निरस्यasat nirasya
having negated the unreal
स्वतः सिद्धंsvataḥ siddhaṃ
the self–existing (Brahman)
व्योमवत्vyomavat
like space
अप्रतर्क्यम्apratarkyam
which is beyond description

अखण्ड–बोधम्akhaṇḍa–bodham
as the undifferentiated consciousness

Translation

The self–existing Brahman, having negated the universe as unreal, shines like the space which is beyond description, as asserted in scriptural sentences such as ‘not gross, not subtle’ (Br.Up.3–8–8). Hence, discard this manifest and unreal phenomenon which is (falsely) identified as the Self. With a pure mind, know yourself as the Atman, the undifferentiated consciousness.

Annotation

‘Pure mind’ implies the mind which has passed through the three–tier process of listening, logical validation and internalisation.
