Shloka

अतः पृथङ्नास्ति जगत्परात्मनः
पृथक्प्रतीतिस्तु मृषा गुणादिवत् ।
आरोपितस्यास्ति किमर्थवत्ता -
धिष्ठानमाभाति तथा भ्रमेण ॥ २३७ ॥

ataḥ pṛthaṅnāsti jagatparātmanaḥ
pṛthakpratītistu mṛṣā guṇādivat ;
āropitasyāsti kimarthavattā -
dhiṣṭhānamābhāti tathā bhrameṇa . 237 .

Anvaya

अतःataḥ
Hence (because it is not perceived at all times)
परात्मनः पृथक्parātmanaḥ pṛthak
apart from the Brahman
जगत् नास्तिjagat nāsti
the world does not exist
पृथक् प्रतीतिः तुpṛthak pratītiḥ tu
distinct appearance is but
मृषाmṛṣā
unreal
गुण–अहि–वत्guṇa–ahi–vat
like the snake on a rope
आरोपितस्यāropitasya
For something which is superimposed
अर्थवत्ताarthavattā
substantiality
किम् अस्तिkim asti
what exists
अधिष्ठानम्adhiṣṭhānam
the substratum
भ्रमेणbhrameṇa
by delusion
आभाति तथाābhāti tathā
manifests in such manner

Translation

Hence the world does not exist apart from Brahman. The distinct appearance is merely unreal, like the snake on a rope. Where is substantiality for a thing which is superimposed? The substratum itself manifests in such manner due to delusion.
