मृत्कार्यभूतोऽपि मृदो न भिन्नः
कुम्भोऽस्ति सर्वत्र तु मृत्स्वरूपात् ।
न कुम्भरूपं पृथगस्ति कुम्भः
कुतो मृषाकल्पितनाममात्रः ॥ २३० ॥

mṛtkāryabhūto’pi mṛdo na bhinnaḥ
kumbho’sti sarvatra tu mṛtsvarūpāt ;
na kumbharūpaṃ pṛthagasti kumbhaḥ
kuto mṛṣākalpitanāmamātraḥ . 230 .

Anvaya

कुम्भःkumbhaḥ
A pot
मृत्–कार्य–भूतः अपिmṛt–kārya–bhūtaḥ api
though the effect (product) of clay
मृदः न भिन्नः अस्तिmṛdaḥ na bhinnaḥ asti
is not different from the clay
सर्वत्र तुsarvatra tu
because everywhere
मृत्–स्वरूपात्mṛt–svarūpāt
it is of the nature of clay
कुम्भ–रूपंkumbha–rūpaṃ
the form of a pot
न पृथग् अस्तिna pṛthag asti
does not independently exist
कुम्भः कुतःkumbhaḥ kutaḥ
where does a pot exist
मृषा कल्पित–नाम–मात्रःmṛṣā kalpita–nāma–mātraḥ
which has a mere name falsely visualised?

Translation

A pot is not different from the clay, though it is the effect of clay. It is of the nature of clay throughout. The form of a pot does not exist independent of clay. Where does a pot exist, which has a mere name falsely visualised?
