Shloka

घटोदके बिम्बितमर्कबिम्ब -
मालोक्य मूढो रविमेव मन्यते ।
तथा चिदाभासमुपाधिसंस्थं
भ्रान्त्याहमित्येव जडोऽभिमन्यते ॥ २२० ॥

ghaṭodake bimbitamarkabimba -
mālokya mūḍho ravimeva manyate ;
tathā cidābhāsamupādhisaṃsthaṃ
bhrāntyāhamityeva jaḍo’bhimanyate . 220 .

Anvaya

आलोक्यālokya
Having seen
अर्क–बिम्बम्arka–bimbam
the reflection (image) of the Sun
बिम्बितम्bimbitam
reflected
घट–उदकेghaṭa–udake
in water located in a pot
मूढःmūḍhaḥ
a deluded person
रविं एव मन्यतेraviṃ eva manyate
takes it to be the Sun itself
तथाtathā
Likewise
चिद्–आभासम्cid–ābhāsam
the reflection of Brahman consciousness
उपाधि–संस्थांupādhi–saṃsthāṃ
manifest in the limiting adjuncts
भ्रान्त्याbhrāntyā
by delusion
जडःjaḍaḥ
a dull person
अभिमन्यतेabhimanyate
identifies with it
अहम् इति एवaham iti eva
as his own Self

Translation

Seeing the reflection of the Sun in the water located in a pot, a deluded person takes it for the Sun itself. Likewise, a dull person identifies the reflection of Brahman consciousness manifest in the limiting adjuncts as his own Self.

Annotation

The limiting adjuncts are the mind, intellect etc.,
