Shloka

तदात्मानात्मनोः सम्यग्विवेकेनैव सिध्यति ।ततो विवेकः कर्तव्यः प्रत्यगात्मासदात्मनोः ॥ २०५ ॥

tadātmānātmanoḥ samyagvivekenaiva sidhyati ;tato vivekaḥ kartavyaḥ pratyagātmāsadātmanoḥ . 205 .

Anvaya

तद्tad

सम्यग्–विवेकेन–एवsamyag–vivekena–eva
only by proper discrimination
आत्मा–अनामनोःātmā–anāmanoḥ
of the Self and non–self
ततःtataḥ
hence
विवेकः कर्तव्यःvivekaḥ kartavyaḥ
discrimination (analysis) has to be done
प्रत्यग्–आत्मा–असद्–आत्मनोःpratyag–ātmā–asad–ātmanoḥ
of the inner Self and the false self (non–self)

Translation

Right knowledge of the Self and non–self is possible only by proper discrimination and hence proper analysis of the inner Self and the non–self has to be done.

Annotation

‘Innermost Self’ – refers to Brahman and the non–self refers to the jīva who is falsely identifying with the intellect. Knowing these two distinctly by the guidance of the teacher is viveka (Jagadguru).
