Shloka

शिष्य उवाच -
भ्रमेणाप्यन्यथा वास्तु जीवभावः परात्मनः ।
तदुपाधेरनादित्वान्नानादेर्नाश इष्यते ॥ १९४ ॥

śiṣya uvāca -
bhrameṇāpyanyathā vāstu jīvabhāvaḥ parātmanaḥ ;
tadupādheranāditvānnānādernāśa iṣyate . 194 .

Anvaya

भ्रमेण अस्तुbhrameṇa astu
Be that due to delusion
अपि अन्यथा वाapi anyathā vā
or due to any other reason
जीव–भावःjīva–bhāvaḥ
the notion of being the jīva
पर–आत्मनःpara–ātmanaḥ
for the Supreme Atman
तद्–उपाधेः अनादित्वात्tad–upādheḥ anāditvāt
as the limiting adjunct is beginning–less
अनादेःanādeḥ
for the beginning–less
न नाशः इष्यतेna nāśaḥ iṣyate
end is not seen

Translation

Be that due to delusion or any other reason, the notion of being jīva is beginning–less for the Supreme Atman, because the limiting adjunct (intellect) is beginning–less. No end is seen to something which is beginning–less.

Annotation

In the verse 186 (above) it was explained as to why the limiting adjunct (the intellect sheath) was called ‘beginning–less’ (Jagadguru).
