Translation

It is only due to identification with the limiting adjunct (intellect sheath) that the Supreme Atman, though being Supreme and always unchanging in nature, emulates the properties of the limiting adjunct and acts with those characteristics; just as fire which has no form, emulates the changing forms of iron.

Annotation

‘Emulating the properties of the limiting adjunct’ – implies that the Atman assumes doership and entertains the notion of being happy, being sad etc. Fire, by itself has no form but appears as a hot iron rod or a hot iron ball (Jagadguru).
