Translation

Even the vital sheath, which is an evolute of the cosmic prāṇa, which moves in and out like air, is never the Atman. It is also because it cannot know anything whatever and wherever, dear or detested, one’s own self or another and it is always dependent (on the mental sheath).

Annotation

The qualities of being an evolute, having activities such as coming and going and being insentient imply that it is delimited and not the infinite Atman which is all–pervading and actionless. Even in deep sleep when prāṇa is present, it cannot know anything as it is insentient (Jagadguru).
