Shloka

कबलितदिननाथे दुर्दिने सान्द्रमेघै -
र्व्यथयति हिमझञ्झावायुरुग्रो यथैतान् ।
अविरततमसात्मन्यावृते मूढबुद्धिं
क्षपयति बहुदुःखैस्तीव्रविक्षेपशक्तिः ॥ १४५ ॥

kabalitadinanāthe durdine sāndrameghai -
rvyathayati himajhañjhāvāyurugro yathaitān ;
aviratatamasātmanyāvṛte mūḍhabuddhiṃ
kṣapayati bahuduḥkhaistīvravikṣepaśaktiḥ . 145 .

यथाyathā
Just as
दुर्दिनेdurdine
on a cloudy day
कबलित–दिन–नाथेkabalita–dina–nāthe
when the Sun is enveloped
सान्द्र–मेघैःsāndra–meghaiḥ
by dense clouds
हिम–झंझा–वायुःhima–jhaṃjhā–vāyuḥ
the violent icy wind
उग्रःugraḥ
severe
व्यथयतिvyathayati
agonises
एतान्etān
these (travelers)
अविरत–तमसाavirata–tamasā
by endless ignorance
आत्मनि आवृतेātmani āvṛte
when the Atman is concealed
तीव्र–विक्षेप–शक्तिःtīvra–vikṣepa–śaktiḥ
the strong power of projection
क्षपयतिkṣapayati
agonises
मूढ–बुद्धिंmūḍha–buddhiṃ
the ignorant person
बहु–दुखैःbahu–dukhaiḥ
by multitude of miseries

Translation

Just as when the Sun is enveloped by dense clouds on a cloudy day the strong icy wind agonises the travelers, similarly when the Atman is concealed by endless ignorance, the strong power of projection agonises the ignorant person by a multitude of miseries.

Annotation

‘Multitude of miseries’ – are birth, death, old age, disease etc (Jagadguru).
