Shloka

भानुप्रभासञ्जनिताभ्रपङ्क्ति -
र्भानुं तिरोधाय यथा विजृम्भते ।
आत्मोदिताहङ्कृतिरात्मतत्त्वं
तथा तिरोधाय विजृम्भते स्वयम् ॥ १४४ ॥

bhānuprabhāsañjanitābhrapaṅkti -
rbhānuṃ tirodhāya yathā vijṛmbhate ;
ātmoditāhaṅkṛtirātmatattvaṃ
tathā tirodhāya vijṛmbhate svayam . 144 .

Anvaya

यथाyathā
Just as
भानु–प्रभा–सञ्जनित–अभ्रपङ्क्तिःbhānu–prabhā–sañjanita–abhrapaṅktiḥ
the array of clouds created by the Sun’s brilliance
विजृम्भतेvijṛmbhate
becomes dominant
भानुं तिरोधायbhānuṃ tirodhāya
having concealed the Sun
तथाtathā
likewise
आत्मोदिता–अहंकृतिःātmoditā–ahaṃkṛtiḥ
the ego arising from Atman
आत्म–तत्त्वं तिरोधायātma–tattvaṃ tirodhāya
having concealed the nature of Atman
विजृम्भते स्वयम्vijṛmbhate svayam
dominates by itself

Translation

Just as the array of clouds, caused by Sun’s brilliance, becomes dominant by concealing the Sun, similarly, the ego arising from Atman conceals the real nature of Atman and dominates by itself.

Annotation

1) ‘Egoism’ – is the sense of identification with the body–mind–complex. 2) ‘The real nature of Atman’ – is the eternal, pure, unbound consciousness (Jagadguru).
