Shloka

तिरोभूते स्वात्मन्यमलतरतेजोवति पुमा -
ननात्मानं मोहादहमिति शरीरं कलयति ।
ततः कामक्रोधप्रभृतिभिरमुं बन्धकगुणैः
परं विक्षेपाख्या रजस उरुशक्तिर्व्यथयति ॥ १४२ ॥

tirobhūte svātmanyamalataratejovati pumā -
nanātmānaṃ mohādahamiti śarīraṃ kalayati ;
tataḥ kāmakrodhaprabhṛtibhiramuṃ bandhakaguṇaiḥ
paraṃ vikṣepākhyā rajasa uruśaktirvyathayati . 142 .

Anvaya

अमलतर–तेजोवतिamalatara–tejovati
When the pure and brilliant
स्वात्मनिsvātmani
the real Self
तिरोभूतेtirobhūte
is concealed
पुमान्pumān
the person
मोहाद्mohād
by delusion
कलयतिkalayati
thinks
शरीरम् अनात्मानं अहम् इतिśarīram anātmānaṃ aham iti
the body which is the non–self as the Self
ततःtataḥ
thereafter
काम–क्रोध–प्रभृतिभिःkāma–krodha–prabhṛtibhiḥ
by (afflictions such as) desire and anger
बन्धक–गुणैःbandhaka–guṇaiḥ
which are the cause of bondage
रजसः उरुशक्तिःrajasaḥ uruśaktiḥ
the mighty power of rajas
विक्षेपाख्याvikṣepākhyā
called vikṣepa
अमुं परं व्यथयतिamuṃ paraṃ vyathayati
torments the person greatly

Translation

When the pure and brilliant real Self is concealed, the person considers the body which is the non–self as the Self. Thereafter the mighty power of rajas, known as vikṣepa (the projecting power), torments the person greatly by afflictions such as desire and anger which are the cause of bondage.

Annotation

‘The causes of bondage’ – desire, anger, greed, arrogance, jealousy etc., help to strengthen the false superimposition (Jagadguru).
