Shloka

अत्रैव सत्त्वात्मनि धीगुहाया -
मव्याकृताकाश उरुप्रकाशः ।
आकाश उच्चैरविवत्प्रकाशते
स्वतेजसा विश्वमिदं प्रकाशयन् ॥ १३४ ॥

atraiva sattvātmani dhīguhāyā -
mavyākṛtākāśa uruprakāśaḥ ;
ākāśa uccairavivatprakāśate
svatejasā viśvamidaṃ prakāśayan . 134 .

Anvaya

अत्र–एवatra–eva
Here itself
धी–गुहाद्याम्dhī–guhādyām
in the intellect cave
सत्त्व–आत्मनिsattva–ātmani
which is of the nature of sattva
अव्याकृत–आकाशेavyākṛta–ākāśe
in the unmanifest space
उरु–प्रकाशःuru–prakāśaḥ
highly luminous
आकाशःākāśaḥ
the luminous one (Atman)
उच्चैः प्रकाशतेuccaiḥ prakāśate
shines gloriously
रवि–वत्ravi–vat
like the Sun
स्व–तेजसाsva–tejasā
with its own brilliance
प्रकाशयन्prakāśayan
by illumining
विश्वम् इदंviśvam idaṃ
this universe

Translation

Here itself (in this body), in the intellect cave which is of the nature of sattva, in the unmanifest space, the highly luminous Atman shines gloriously like the Sun with its own brilliance, illumining the whole universe.

Annotation

1) ‘The intellect’ – it is called a cave because it envelopes the real nature of Brahman. 2) ‘The unmanifest’ – is the māyā which is the material cause pervading all. 3) ‘Highly luminous’ – because it is called as the light of all lights by the scriptures. Consciousness is the only knower and all others are objects which are knowable. The whole universe becomes knowable and hence called as illumined by the light of Atman (Jagadguru).
