Shloka

एषोऽन्तरात्मा पुरुषः पुराणो
निरन्तराखण्डसुखानुभूतिः ।
सदैकरूपः प्रतिबोधमात्रो
येनेषिता वागसवश्चरन्ति ॥ १३३ ॥

eṣo’ntarātmā puruṣaḥ purāṇo
nirantarākhaṇḍasukhānubhūtiḥ ;
sadaikarūpaḥ pratibodhamātro
yeneṣitā vāgasavaścaranti . 133 .

Translation

Atman is the innermost Self, the indwelling and eternal one, of the nature of experience of unbroken bliss, eternal, unchanging in nature and is known as illumining every cognition. The speech (all organs) and the vital airs function activated by this (Atman).

Annotation

1) ‘The innermost Self’ – because it is the substratum for all the superimposed sheaths. 2) ‘purāṇaḥ’– though ancient, it is new. It means that the Atman is eternal. 3) ‘Known as illumining every cognition’ – is that which is present and known through every cognition, as told in the Kenopanishad (Jagadguru).
