Translation

This power by which the object (Brahman) appears other than its true nature is the power of veiling, relating to tamas. This is the cause for the operation of the power of projection and for the transmigrating existence of the individual.

Annotation

The pure Brahman appears otherwise, as the body–mind–complex and as the universe because of the veiling power of māyā. Without this, the projecting power cannot operate. The snake can frighten only when the rope is concealed. This veiling power is the prime cause for the transmigrating nature of the individual (Jagadguru).
