Shloka कामः क्रोधो लोभदम्भाव्यसूया - हङ्कारेर्ष्यामत्सराद्यास्तु घोराः । धर्मा एते राजसाः पुम्प्रवृत्ति - र्यस्मादेतत्तद्रजो बन्धहेतुः ॥ ११४ ॥
kāmaḥ krodho lobhadambhāvyasūyā - haṅkārerṣyāmatsarādyāstu ghorāḥ ; dharmā ete rājasāḥ pumpravṛtti - ryasmādetattadrajo bandhahetuḥ . 114 .
Anvaya कामः kāmaḥ Desire क्रोधः krodhaḥ anger लोभः lobhaḥ greed दम्भः आदि dambhaḥ ādi hubris etc असूया asūyā false imputation अहङ्कारः ahaṅkāraḥ ego ईर्ष्या īrṣyā jealousy मत्सर–आद्याः matsara–ādyāḥ disinclination to help etc , एते धर्माः , ete dharmāḥ these properties घोराः तु ghorāḥ tu are indeed terrible राजसाः rājasāḥ relating to rajas यस्मात् yasmāt because of which एतत् पुम्प्रवृत्तिः etat pumpravṛttiḥ this human endeavour तद् रजः tad rajaḥ that rajas बन्ध–हेतुः bandha–hetuḥ is the cause for bondage Translation The properties of rajas are desire, anger, greed, hubris, false imputation, ego, jealousy, disinclination to help and so on. These terrible properties are the cause for all this human action. This rajas is the cause for bondage.
Annotation The above properties are called terrible as they prevent the seeker from advancement in this world and in the other world (Jagadguru).
