Shloka

विक्षेपशक्ती रजसः क्रियात्मिका
यतः प्रवृत्तिः प्रसृता पुराणी ।
रागादयोऽस्याः प्रभवन्ति नित्यं
दुःखादयो ये मनसो विकाराः ॥ ११३ ॥

vikṣepaśaktī rajasaḥ kriyātmikā
yataḥ pravṛttiḥ prasṛtā purāṇī ;
rāgādayo’syāḥ prabhavanti nityaṃ
duḥkhādayo ye manaso vikārāḥ . 113 .

विक्षेप–शक्तिःvikṣepa–śaktiḥ
The power of projection
रजसःrajasaḥ
relating to rajas
क्रियात्मिकाkriyātmikā
is active in nature (projects different effects)
यतःyataḥ
from which
पुराणी प्रवृत्तिःpurāṇī pravṛttiḥ
the propensity for action, primeval in nature

ये मनसः विकाराःye manasaḥ vikārāḥ
which are the modifications of mind
अस्याःasyāḥ

प्रभवन्ति नित्यंprabhavanti nityaṃ
always emerge

Translation

The power of projection, relating to rajas, is active in nature. The propensity for action, primeval in nature, has emanated from it. From this (power of projection) arise the modifications of mind such as attachment, grief etc., in a perennial manner.

Annotation

1) Māyā is said to have two powers – the power to veil the real and to project the non–real. The latter relates to rajas. It refers either to the activity of the individual or the activity of the creator relating to creation and resolution (Jagadguru). 2) The modifications of mind such as attachment, grief etc., are only for the individual and not for the creator. All these are binding in nature (Jagadguru).
