Shloka

देवदत्तोऽहमित्येतद्विज्ञानं निरपेक्षकम् ।तद्वद्ब्रह्मविदोऽप्यस्य ब्रह्माहमिति वेदनम् ॥ ५३३ ॥

devadatto’hamityetadvijñānaṃ nirapekṣakam ;tadvadbrahmavido’pyasya brahmāhamiti vedanam . 533 .

Anvaya

अयम् आत्माayam ātmā
This Atman
नित्य–सिद्धःnitya–siddhaḥ
is always present
प्रमाणे सतिpramāṇe sati
in the light of proper pramāṇa
भासतेbhāsate
it is realised
न अपेक्षतेna apekṣate
it does not need
देशंdeśaṃ
place
न अपि वाna api vā
nor
कालंkālaṃ
time
न वा अपिna vā api
nor
शुद्धिंśuddhiṃ
cleanliness of body etc

Translation

The awareness such as ‘I am Devadatta’ does not depend on any external validation. Similarly, for this knower of Brahman too, the awareness that ‘I am Brahman’ does not need external validation.

Annotation

A person who has ceased identification with the five sheaths remains as Brahman.
