Shloka

विज्ञात आत्मनो यस्य ब्रह्मभावः श्रुतेर्बलात् ।भवबन्धविनिर्मुक्तः स जीवन्मुक्त इष्यते ॥ ४३८ ॥

vijñāta ātmano yasya brahmabhāvaḥ śruterbalāt ;bhavabandhavinirmuktaḥ sa jīvanmukta iṣyate . 438 .

a person who is liberated while being alive

Translation

A person who, on the strength of the scriptures, has realised the oneness of his self and Brahman and he who is freed from the bondage of birth is fit to be called a person who is liberated while being alive.

Annotation

‘The strength of scriptures’ – refers to the unity statements such as ‘That you are’ (Jagadguru).
