Shloka

अनन्यत्वमधिष्ठानादारोप्यस्य निरीक्षितम् ।पण्डितै रज्जुसर्पादौ विकल्पो भ्रान्तिजीवनः ॥ ४०७ ॥

ananyatvamadhiṣṭhānādāropyasya nirīkṣitam ;paṇḍitai rajjusarpādau vikalpo bhrāntijīvanaḥ . 407 .

Anvaya

आरोप्यस्यāropyasya
For the superimposed one
निरीक्षितम्nirīkṣitam
it is clearly seen (that)
पण्डितैःpaṇḍitaiḥ
by the wise
अनन्यत्वम्ananyatvam
not being different
अधिष्ठानाद्adhiṣṭhānād
from the substratum
रज्जु–सर्प–आदौrajju–sarpa–ādau
in things like the rope–snake
विकल्पःvikalpaḥ
such visualisation
भ्रान्ति–जीवनःbhrānti–jīvanaḥ
is based on delusion

Translation

The wise persons clearly see that a superimposed thing is not different from the substratum. In things like the rope–snake, such visualisation is based on delusion.
