Shloka

बाह्यानुसन्धिः परिवर्धयेत्फलं
दुर्वासनामेव ततस्ततोऽधिकाम् ।
ज्ञात्वा विवेकैः परिहृत्य बाह्यं
स्वात्मानुसन्धिं विदधीत नित्यम् ॥ ३३५ ॥

bāhyānusandhiḥ parivardhayetphalaṃ
durvāsanāmeva tatastato’dhikām ;
jñātvā vivekaiḥ parihṛtya bāhyaṃ
svātmānusandhiṃ vidadhīta nityam . 335 .

Translation

Attachment with external objects merely increases the negative latent impressions in the mind as its result. Knowing this, one should always contemplate on the Self, after having given up pursuit of external objects by proper discrimination.

Annotation

The verse 314 above has shown that by nursing the latent tendencies, activity too increases and by the increase in activity, the tendencies become stronger (Jagadguru).
