Shloka

संसारबन्धविच्छित्त्यै तद्द्वयं प्रदहेद्यतिः ।वासनावृद्धिरेताभ्यां चिन्तया क्रियया बहिः ॥ ३१५ ॥

saṃsārabandhavicchittyai taddvayaṃ pradahedyatiḥ ;vāsanāvṛddhiretābhyāṃ cintayā kriyayā bahiḥ . 315 .

Anvaya

संसार–बन्ध–विच्छित्त्यैsaṃsāra–bandha–vicchittyai
In order to shatter the bond of transmigration
यतिःyatiḥ
the seeker
प्रदहेत्pradahet
has to set ablaze
तद् द्वयंtad dvayaṃ
the two
वासनाvāsanā
The inner tendency
चिन्तयाcintayā
by desire
अन्तःantaḥ
inside
प्रेर्यते हिpreryate hi
is indeed encouraged
क्रिययाkriyayā
and by way of action
बहिःbahiḥ
outwardly

Translation

In order to shatter the bond of transmigration, the seeker has to set ablaze the two (activity and tendency). Indeed, the inner tendency gets encouraged internally by desire and externally by action.

Annotation

The latent tendency (vāsanā) gets nourished by contemplation internally and by action externally (Jagadguru).
